Simplyhealth donates £250,000 to NHS Charities Together

Leading healthcare company, Simplyhealth has donated £250,000 to NHS Charities Together this winter as part of its ongoing commitment to donate a minimum of £1million every year to health-related charities and community causes.

Simplyhealth chose to donate to NHS Charities Together projects not covered by core government funding, to support their vision of a thriving NHS and the best possible healthcare for everyone.

Simplyhealth gave its customers, community, and colleagues the opportunity to vote how the money should be allocated between the charity’s three areas 1) supporting the wellbeing of the NHS workforce, 2) improving the experiences of patients and their families, or 3) empowering local communities to live well. The voting was open from the beginning of December and closed on Friday 20th December.

Workforce wellbeing received the most votes at 758, meaning Simplyhealth donated £140,000 to support NHS staff. Living well received 383 votes and was allocated £70,000 to empower communities to live healthier lifestyles. Patient experiences received 224 votes, and a £40,000 of funding.

By supporting the three impact areas of the charity, the funding will be allocated to many projects across the UK, all with the aim of:

  • Empowering communities to thrive by reducing health inequalities, supporting healthier lifestyles and equipping people with the skills to respond effectively to crises.

  • Funding the initiatives and innovations needed to improve care and make healthcare spaces feel like welcoming environments.

  • Supporting the NHS workforce by providing practical, social and psychological support that will help the NHS care for everyone.

Sarah Campion, Director of Communications and External Affairs at NHS Charities Together, said:

“We are hugely grateful to Simplyhealth for their generous donation, which will enable us to continue our vital work supporting NHS staff, patients and communities. This fundraising comes at a vital time, given the NHS is under even more pressure over winter, when seasonal illnesses such as colds, flu and COVID are more prevalent. Nearly three quarters (72%) of the 2,000 UK adults we recently surveyed said NHS staff have the most difficult job this time of year, while three in five (60%) of NHS staff polled said they are likely to miss a festive gathering with friends and family. A similar proportion (54%) of NHS staff said they are likely to work extra shifts to cover for sick staff.

“As the national charity caring for the NHS, we work with a network of NHS charities to provide extra support in every hospital, health board, ambulance, community and mental health trust across the UK, helping the health service go further. Whether it’s funding helplines or relaxation areas for staff coming off busy shifts, long COVID research, equipment to help reduce anxiety for young people facing cancer or therapeutic green spaces, this extra support will benefit staff, patients and the wider community.”

As a purpose led organisation, we’re committed to improving access to healthcare for all, and once again this year we wanted our customers, colleagues and community to be included in our mission and to make a difference. Thank you to everyone who voted.”
